Apprentice takes over as project manager

Habegger | 4 May 2023

Our apprentices do not only support at a wide variety of events, they also take on responsibility for their own work. Tim Weber is currently completing his third apprenticeship year as an event specialist with a Swiss Federal Vocational Education and Training diploma and took on the overall project management of the live stream for the EuroHockey Club Trophy in Wettingen in mid-April.

In mid-April, it was time for Tim Weber to switch roles! At events, the event specialist apprentice usually receives assignments from experienced project managers. For the live broadcast of the EuroHockey Club Trophy, a tournament of the best women’s country field hockey teams in Europe, he found himself in the role of an overall project manager.

Learning by doing

As part of this apprentice project, he was allowed to realize the livestream from the beginning to the end. This included not only the technical planning, but also staying within the budget. “This was a new but very exciting challenge for me,” says the young talent. He adds that it made him more aware of how important logistics are in the budgeting process. “With every box I load less, I save time, weight and money”, Tim explains. This led him to categorize the material into “must-have” and “nice-to-have” and as a result he only booked the technology that was really relevant to the project.

Collected experiences

During the weekend of the EuroTrophy, Tim recieved support from two of his fellow apprentices. Luna Hügi and Fabrice Kern were standing behind the camera and followed the instructions from Tim, who took over the direction and ensured the technical transmission.

“In this project, I was able to apply and deepen many skills I learned, such as how to execute a stream, how to work with a camera and how to interact with customers and teammates on a professional level”, explains the 18-year-old proudly. In general, he is taking with him valuable experiences from this project: Finding ad-hoc solutions, having options ready for different execution scenarios, and leading a team. Throughout the project, Tim was able to ask for the expertise from different Habegger specialists, exchange ideas, get tips, and reflect on ideas.

Reaching the goal with success

The Young Talent particularly emphasizes that he really enjoyed being in charge of an event and planning a project from start to finish. “I was able to realize my own ideas and had to think step by step about how to get to the goal”, he says with a smile on his face, looking back on the event.
